Advancing U.S. Bus Safety and Modernization Training

This two-day course* provides participants with an overview and familiarization of battery electric bus (BEB) basics; it is comprised of three modules titled:

  1. BEB Overview: Fundamentals
  2. Electrical Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  3. Battery Charging Technologies

This course offers participants an overview on:

  1. What a battery electric bus (BEB) is
  2. What features allow a BEB to function similarly and differently from standard internal combustion engines and hybrid buses
  3. Preventive maintenance practices
  4. Safety guidelines and protocols – particularly around HV
  5. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment
  6. Summary of BEB charging technologies

The course will also include demonstrations of technicians performing de-energization of a BEB and other hands-on exercises and video demonstrations to allow participants to, visually, note specific materials and procedures utilized during various BEB maintenance tasks. Additionally, participants will discuss emerging BEB maintenance technologies and trends and other related issues with industry experts and peers. Audience: Any technician and/or bus maintenance personnel that, currently or anticipates, responsibilities for maintaining, managing, or housing battery electric buses.
