The National Transit Institute, at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, was established under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 to develop, promote, and deliver training and education programs for the public transit industry. In 1999, we became part of the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center, housed at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.
Over the years, NTI has been funded under several federal surface transportation laws, including the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) and the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act.
Today, NTI is authorized under 49 U.S.C. § 5314(c) (Technical Assistance and Workforce Development), established in the FAST Act and reauthorized through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
Sponsored by the Federal Transit Administration
